Rain.

This evening, it was raining here in Chennai,  which reminded me of the monsoon season back in my hometown, Vadakara. Here’s a piece of something that I wrote last year, of one such rainy morning,  which I felt too silly to share back then. But now, I miss that rain and how it made me feel. And most importantly,  I am at a loss for words to express how nostalgic I feel right now, so I had to rely on something that I wrote back when I had the time and heart to play with words.

“It has been raining since I woke up today. It was the kind of rain that did not disturb anything in its way. The clouds were thick, leaving only a shimmer of a gap to let the sunlight feel the wetness in the ground. Raindrops fell on the leaves, making them wobble their heads as if dancing to the rhythm of the rain. Small diamond-shaped water droplets clung to the edge of the leaves, only to fall for the next droplet to take their place on the edge.  The air on my way to the temple pond was filled with a distinct smell of wetness, an aroma filled with memories of childhood.  It was pretty early in the morning, so the sound of the birds chirping could be heard, although it was muffled by the sound of raindrops hitting my umbrella.

The pond is a lot bigger than the one I went to when I was a kid. In that small pond, I learned how to swim. Though they are different in size, when I was standing there today, I felt a similar level of ecstasy that I felt when I was that kid learning how to swim. The anticipation I had when I saw the green water wobbling from every drop of rain was the same as I felt back then. The increase in heartbeat, eyes opening wide, and the restlessness of a kid who wants to enjoy every core moment of his childhood. I had all of those feelings that I thought I had only in my memories. I undressed quickly, leaving only my shorts, as if not to waste a second, and ran towards the pond. Mouth open with a crazy smile, eyes wide open to see every moment, I jumped, spreading my arms and legs with sheer joy.  I was mid-air, waiting for the water to engulf me, like I wanted to be buried inside, to be covered with silence and cold water. And it did cover me. The bubbles that formed from the impact of my fall caressed my body as they went upwards. It was every bit as joyful as I felt it when I was a kid. I am a frequent visitor to this big pond, but something in the air today felt heavy with a nostalgic joy. When I was running towards that pond, I was once again that small boy. The anticipation, the restlessness, the sheer joy, the silence inside the water, the tickling sensation of bubbles touching me- everything felt like I was experiencing for the first time. It was not nostalgia, but for a moment, I became that kid. Experiencing it all for the first time. I swam in the pond for an hour, and the rain was just as how when I woke up. As it was existing and doing its job, and I was just another organism who was enjoying its touch."

Frangipani, Artists, and Angels.

“In the yellow street lights, to the cool breeze of a full moon night, a flower floated towards us. Nila grasped it in between her fingers, offered it to me, and asked, ‘Its name is Frangipanni, whenever you see this, will you think of me?” Thus wrote Kaber Vasuki in his song ‘Frangipanni’, about a girl named Nila. She is a beacon of hope that sheds light on the souls lost in life's chaos. She isn’t so pure as it might seem, or is there any human being that has ever been devoid of any impurities? But her presence was soothing for those who had the grace of knowing her. Nila is someone who giggles when the night’s cold breeze wafts the thick smell of Jasmine flowers along with it; she is someone who packs her bag and leaves for Calcutta because, why not? She is someone whom you will wish to know, to have that shed of light to reach upon you, when described by such a songwriter as Kaber Vasuki. That is why, when her death flows in like a poem in this song, I felt my heart yearning ...

Dude review and what its takes to be a hero in 2K25

Dude is unconventional; this movie deals with subjects that may offend the larger audience. But here is the highlight: it's not a ‘cuckhold movie’ or any other derogatory term could not be tagged to this movie. After its initial release, this movie got bashed left and right for portraying a love triangle most unconventionally; this initial response made me reluctant to go watch it. But after its OTT release, I thought I could give it a try, and not going to lie, I enjoyed every bit of this movie. Although the first 10 minutes of the movie were too chaotic for me to handle, and with the unpleasant mix of oorum blood song, the chaos was unbearable. I almost went to switch it off, as there was a predetermined opinion about this movie that exists within me from all the online responses. But I am very much glad that I watched it, and I loved it. I loved it, but.. Dude is not a great movie; it has its own flaws for a movie from a debutant director. This is the kind of movie that we...

The Karur Incident. The rise of a hypocrite leader or another fall of an actor turned politician?

TVK (Tamilaga Vetri Kazhagam) and its leader Vijay’s political career can be distinguished as before and after ‘The Karur Incident’. The developments after the dreadful incident in Karur, where 41 civilians had been suffocated to death in a stampede, will either sow the seeds for a new leader or witness yet another failure of an actor turned politician. Whereas the chance of the latter happening is more prominent, considering the magnitude of the incident, it is still possible to say that Vijay can make a positive political career out of all this. For that to happen, the political decisions of the TVK leader should be more critical. It is also important to note that if Vijay makes all the decisions that lead him to become the future leader, then the leader we get might not be such a charismatic one, but rather a hypocritical leader. And Vijay had already taken the steps to be one such leader. In the video he posted two days after the tragic incident, Vijay failed to take respon...
